What do you do when the person you’ve been married to for decades leaves you for someone else? Karen J Lee explores life after the end of a long marriage in her evocative essay “Happy Hour,” which appears in PRISM’s Love & Sex theme issue. “Happy Hour” is set at the cottage Lee and her husband once shared on Cooper Island in British Columbia. The essay explores grief, longing, and rebirth as Lee makes the first tentative steps towards putting her life back together.
In honour of the first day of spring (which was technically yesterday, I know), Lee sent us this lovely photo of a blooming crocus taken on Cooper Island where “Happy Hour” takes place.
Happy Spring PRISM readers! Especially those of you who’ve lived through a polar vortex or two this winter. Make sure to pick up a copy of our Love & Sex issue to read Karen J Lee’s beautiful essay in it’s entirety.
