We are very excited to reveal the winners of the 2015 Poetry Contest, as chosen by judge Ken Babstock. The response to our Poetry Contest this year was amazing – over 750 poems from 275 poets!
Without further ado:
- Grand Prize: “Regional Transit” by Phoebe Wang
- 1st Runner Up: “Morning Bells are Ringing” by Jessie Jones
- 2nd Runner Up: “First Death Ever Filmed” by Jennie Malboeuf
About Phoebe Wang’s winning poem, judge Ken Babstock said, “Regional Transit” has “its own local alchemy and misdirection… I don’t know how some poems achieve this, but when I read a voice calmly saying itself and its opposite simultaneously on almost every line, I simply give over to it.”
You can read Ken’s essay in full in our Summer issue 53.4, along with the winning poem. Congratulations to our winners and thank you to all who entered!
