Sprawl. We love the onomatopoeic quality of this word. To spread, to be without boundary, to reach outside oneself, unapologetic. Imagine unfolding prairies, the slouch of city streets, the smoky silhouette of mountains beyond mountains. What stories reverberate home; who are you when your body sprawls across the old brown couch? With issue 58.3, we aim to reclaim, deborder, decolonize: our maps, our flesh, our futures. We’re looking for work that eludes containment, breaks the tether, and finds itself wandering across the edgelands. Tear up the blueprint and walk through the doorway into all that open space—we invite you to sprawl.
We have extended our deadline for submissions to the themed issue until December 31, 2019. We are accepting prose (approximately 4,000 words or less), poetry (up to four poems, to a maximum of six pages), and black and white artwork (between three and ten images, sent as greyscale, high-res .tiff files with transparent backgrounds). Please submit prose and poetry via Submittable, and send art submissions to poetry@prismmagazine.ca. We pay $30 per printed page of prose, $40 per printed page of poetry, and $20 per printed page of artwork.
